AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello, Friends, we're back with another full newsletter that ranges all over the place as far as news and commentary is concerned. If you like, dear readers, you can take that as a symptom of the broadening of artificial intelligence across more parts of the financial industry, our lives, and the world as a whole. AI is everywhere, and interacting with everything. Want evidence? We open the AI & Finance headlines column discussing the intersection of AI with behavioral finance. This week's content then weaves through subjects as diverse as data-oriented corporate executives, super-sized venture capital announcements, frontier AI safety, and an AI app recently launched with the intent of replacing human financial advisors with technology. Do we have your attention? Good! Because this week, we also uncover and explore another fascinating paradox regarding human beings and AI: The more we use it, the less we seem to want to use it. If you dig deeper, you're going to find much, much more in this week's newsletter, but don't take our word for it... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 10/2/26

We have a fun job, folks. Technology is a blast to write about on its own, as there's always something new or provocative happening, and it keeps a curious writer and editor on their toes. But even more fascinating are the areas where human traits and technology come together, and that's why we're going to introduce AI & Finance this week (yes, there's lots of news below) by talking about what at first glance seems to be a very non-technological topic: Behavioral finance. For the handful of financial practitioners out there who are unaware of behavioral finance, over the past few decades it... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION | What Is a Chief Data Officer?

Many businesses can be oaks. It's much harder to be a sequoia. If the modern business enterprise is a tree, then data is the sap that it uses to feed all of its constituent parts. Data has always mattered to financial institutions. What has changed is how much of the modern enterprise now depends on it-and how quickly bad data can propagate through automated systems. If we extend our metaphor, when that tree starts to become exceptionally large, and it has to move more sap farther distances, the complexity and volume of the data may become a limit on growth. There's nothing... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (9/30/26)

This week our overall AI venture capital activity accelerated from recent weeks, with all five of our listed announcements coming in over $450 million and 13 announcements total coming in over $100 million. The biggest announcement, per FinSMEs, came from the U.K., where London-based AI infrastructure provider Nscale raised $3.36 billion via convertable to "further accelerate expansion of Nscale's vertically integrated AI cloud platform - from behind-the-meter power plants to liquid cooled AI data centers and large-scale GPU clusters - to support accelerating demand for AI cloud services," according to its announcement, which also mentioned that the company is headed for an initial public offering... AI INTELLIGENCE | News For the Week of 10/1/26

Artificial intelligence's latest news cycle was dominated by an increasingly consequential tension: AI systems are becoming more autonomous and capable at the same time governments and developers are scrambling to decide how those systems should be controlled. The White House secured a voluntary safety accord from six major AI companies, while the Federal Trade Commission and California Attorney General Rob Bonta opened or expanded investigations into risks posed by advanced AI agents. Meanwhile, OpenAI introduced persistent "Dots" agents, Google unveiled its Gemini 4 Argon frontier model, Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Nvidia rolled out technology designed to contain rogue agents. Add multibillion-dollar... CONTINUE HERE

LOOKING BACK | The More Ubiquitous AI Is, the Less Popular It Becomes

Yes, friends, we found another AI-related paradox. Artificial intelligence has a strange popularity problem. People are using it at a remarkable pace, businesses are weaving it into everyday operations, and workers increasingly encounter it whether they actively sought it out or not. Yet the more ubiquitous AI becomes, the less straightforward the public's relationship with it appears. Consider the United States. A September survey led by researchers at Rutgers University found that 72% of U.S. adults had used at least one major AI tool, up from 50% in November 2024. More than a quarter, 27%, said they use AI every day. Personal use... CONTINUE HERE

INDUSTRY BRIEF | This AI App Wants to Replace Advisors. Will It?

Bill Harris has spent much of his career trying to move financial services onto new technological rails. He ran Intuit and PayPal, founded Personal Capital and, more recently, created registered investment adviser Evergreen Wealth. His latest project pushes that progression a step further: What happens when the financial-planning software itself begins talking directly to the consumer? The answer is Evergreen.ai, an AI-powered financial advice application that Harris formally launched in September. Available through mobile and desktop browsers, Evergreen.ai is designed to provide personalized answers about financial planning, retirement, investments, taxes and other money decisions. Consumers who register during the beta can use the... CONTINUE HERE
