Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!
Hello, friends, and welcome to another packed-full AI & Finance. Before we say more about the news, we'll offer a brief line to a good friend. Bill Taylor, CEO of Digital Wealth News, passed away during the last weekend in July, just as we ourselves were on the road returning home. Bill was a fearless thinker-we don't think there was ever a so-called box that he thought inside of. The man had a marvelous mind, and he was kind and funny to boot. We'll have more to say in an upcoming column, but he will be sorely missed around here. For now, our readers will find a colleague's tribute to him below. Elsewhere, we talk about major trends in AI like international competition, global conflict, frontier models and a growing emphasis on ROI among enterprises and investors alike. Our AI & Finance column is likewise packed full of as much news as we've ever seen, and you'll find that venture capital activity has not abated among recent volatility. There's even more to be found in this week's newsletter... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

Another week, another new era. Stop us if you've heard something like this before: we've entered a new phase in artificial intelligence. It seems like we're always entering new phases. Welcome to AI & Finance, where, to top off our discussion this week we're going to address a few reports about AI's new "show me" phase, which apparently means that investors and companies are actually looking for evidence of a return on investment from their AI-allocated dollars. The implication being that, to this point, everyone was kind of blindly dumping hundreds of billions of dollars into technology and the infrastructure to support it... CONTINUE HERE

It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Bill Taylor on July 24th, 2026, while vacationing with his daughter, Traci. We feel a great loss in losing Bill; he was a colleague and friend to all of us, and the broader community. Bill was the CEO of Digital Wealth News, and along with his wife Cindy, started the publication over a decade ago. Bill 'kept the lights on' at Digital Wealth News after the passing of Cindy earlier this year. Bill was a pioneer in the wealth publications industry, previously owning FinTekNews, which was acquired by Financial Advisor Magazine in... CONTINUE HERE

Move over Davy Crockett. In fact, move over wild frontier, too. As it turns out, move over Star Trek and James T. Kirk, because we've found a frontier beyond space. The new frontier is digital. The new explorers are software. The new final frontier resides in cyberspace, not space. Welcome to AI Education, where this week we're talking frontier AI, which, unfortunately, does not in this case refer to AI models in fringed buckskin outfits and coonskin hats with ringed tails hanging down the back. In fact, frontier is probably another example of the tortured PR language and jargon that technologists give to... CONTINUE HERE

This week our overall AI venture capital activity accelerated from prior weeks, with all five of our listed announcements coming in over $250 million and 12 announcements total coming in over $100 million. The biggest announcement, per FinSMEs, came from San Jose, Calif.-based energy storage provider Antora Energy, which raised a $550 million Series C to "accelerate the deployment of large-scale projects across the country, expand production, establish a second U.S. manufacturing hub, and strengthen its domestic supply chain," according to its announcement. Our second-place announcement was from the healthcare space, where New York-based Function raised $450 million to "accelerate its expansion and... CONTINUE HERE

FMG Suite, the Gardena California-based marketing and growth platform for financial advisors, insurance professionals and enterprises, announced the expansion of its senior team with four industry veteran hires. In a recent release, the firm states that as broker-dealers, RIAs, wirehouses, insurance organizations and asset managers increasingly deploy FMG on behalf of advisors and agents at scale, the firm is expanding leadership in the areas that matter most to enterprise success, including AI strategy and infrastructure, customer success and enterprise sales. FMG believes that together, its new hires strengthen its ability to help institutions deliver compliant growth, deepen advisor engagement and bring more of... CONTINUE HERE

The artificial intelligence industry continued shifting beyond simply building larger models toward addressing the consequences of increasingly autonomous AI systems. The week's developments highlighted a growing emphasis on AI safety, cybersecurity, governance and national competitiveness. Technology companies reorganized leadership teams to accelerate frontier AI development, governments refined oversight frameworks, and researchers continued confronting the reality that advanced AI agents are capable of increasingly sophisticated autonomous behavior. Together, these events underscored an industry moving from experimentation toward the practical challenges of deploying AI responsibly at global scale. Alphabet announced a significant reorganization of its artificial intelligence leadership, with Demis Hassabis stepping back from day-to-day... CONTINUE HERE

Following international relations is a little like trainspotting in a rural area. In some spots, you can walk the tracks for an hour, maybe two, and see nothing but nature, and then in the span of 20 or 30 minutes, eight trains might go by almost all at once... and then, nothing once again. Similarly, the international order seems to normally chug along, with only incremental change, until all at once things start happening. The behavior of rogue nations. Extranational actors. Natural disasters. Sometimes, things go off in international relations like a grenade, like a hornet's nest thrown into a Volkswagen-economists call... CONTINUE HERE
