AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello, friends, we're happy to bring you another huge week of financial services and artificial intelligence news, but before we get to all of the information packed in this edition of AI & Finance, we need to attend to a housekeeping matter, chiefly, that yours truly, the editor-in-chief, is about to take a bit of a break. In fact, as we write this intro, we're loading up the old "Wagon Queen Family Truckster" for a fun couple of days on the highways with our family (send prayers). No, we're not really leaving, editors really don't go on full vacation, we always have one foot in the door-but things are going to be even lighter than usual over the next couple of weeks. That's definitely not the case this time around, thanks to a few huge venture capital raises, Pope Leo XIV wading back into the AI fray, and an active week in financial AI announcements. Readers will also find an AI Education column about data governance, and an AI mar-tech announcement from FMG. There's a lot to get to... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 5/29/26

Once again, AI takes no holiday. In the mean time, we have a gigantic week in financial artificial intelligence to get to, despite missing an entire day of U.S.-based news on Monday due to the holiday. Before running through all those headlines, though, we thought we'd take a spin through some of the latest news, statistics and commentary around the web. First, we have questions from academic financial researchers regarding AI's impact on markets in "Financial Stability in the age of artificial intelligence," a VoxEU column this week which distinguishes the potential impacts of trading using large language models versus other forms of... AI EDUCATION | What Is Data Governance?

Our biggest obstacle to bettering ourselves is usually ourselves. And so it is with artificial intelligence. Our topic this week on AI Education is data governance, but before we get around to defining it, let's talk about the biggest hangup to adopting AI in financial services: Trust... not that it seems to be hanging us up all that much, but if readers want evidence for that, they should read this weeks' AI in Finance headlines column. Anyway, trust-trust in the information we're using to train and prompt AI, and trust in the reliability and validity AI's output-is perhaps the biggest hangup... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (5/27/26)

This week our overall AI venture capital activity accelerated yet again from prior weeks, with all five of our announcements coming in over $200 million and seven announcements coming in over $100 million. The biggest announcement, per FinSMEs, came from San Jose, CA-based Hark, which raised a $700 million Series A to "accelerate the development of advanced personalized intelligence and next-generation hardware designed to serve as a universal interface between humans and machines," according to its announcement. Recursive Superintelligence creates agentic AI that is designed to interface with human users naturally in real-world contexts. Our second-place announcement was from New York-based AI infrastructure... CONTINUE HERE

AI INTELLIGENCE | News For the Week of 5/28/26

The artificial intelligence sector delivered another eventful week, marked by massive funding rounds, major model launches, intensifying competition among leading AI labs, and growing attention to regulation, cybersecurity, and enterprise deployment. The biggest headline came from Anthropic, which surpassed OpenAI in valuation after securing one of the largest private funding rounds in technology history. Meanwhile, Google continued expanding its AI-first search strategy, enterprises accelerated adoption of generative AI platforms, and policymakers around the world moved closer to implementing new AI governance frameworks. Together, these developments underscored how rapidly AI is evolving from a disruptive technology into critical economic infrastructure. Anthropic became the week's... CONTINUE HERE

AI PERSPECTIVE | Pope Leo XIV Stands Up to AI's Silicon 'Tower of Babel'

When Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas ("Magnificent Humanity"), many observers expected a broad statement on technology, ethics, and human dignity. Instead, they received something far more ambitious: a 42,000-word manifesto that places artificial intelligence at the center of the Church's social teaching and frames AI as one of the defining moral, economic, and political challenges of the twenty-first century. The encyclical, formally titled On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence, draws a direct parallel between today's AI revolution and the industrial upheaval that inspired Pope Leo XIII's landmark 1891 encyclical Rerum Novarum. Just as the... CONTINUE HERE
