AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello, Friends, it's that time of the week again where we round up a sizable chunk of AI in the financial services news for you to enjoy and serve it up with a side of commentary that you all hopefully find relevant and thought-provoking. While there wasn't as much volume in AI news as we've seen in previous weeks, there were quite a few important announcements to cover. AI & Finance gets us off with a bang with a discussion of AI in education and a gentle suggestion that too much AI is like too much television. We swing into an AI Education column with a new spin on a topic we touched on earlier this year: orchestration. There was quite a bit of venture capital activity to cover in our Top 5 VC column, and ChatGPT rounds things out with AI Intelligence technology headlines, and a deeper dive into OpenAI's DeployCo announcement, which under the surface has some potential consequences for the financial services industry... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 5/15/26

Sure, artificial intelligence could help us do more. It might also make us stupid. Welcome to another AI & Finance, where it was, well, a week in financial artificial intelligence. From our perspective as an editor and aggregator of news, it seems like the company announcements that we usually cover in this column were a little slow this time around. On the other hand, we had a lot of surveys and other spicy data being offered, which we're going to for the most part leave for a future column to discuss, if we choose to cover them at all, because none of them... AI EDUCATION | What Is an Orchestrated LLM?

It takes two to make a dream come true. Or three. Or Four. Anyway, it takes more than one person to do most things that people want to do from a business perspective. So it makes sense that it would take more than one AI tool to manifest our dreams, right? A single LLM just responds to our prompts, which is great if we need it to answer a few questions-but we want AI that can keep up with our emails and calendars, and help us take notes in meetings, AI that helps us to write and work more productively. A single... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (5/13/26)

This week our overall AI venture capital activity accelerated yet again from prior weeks, including multiple raises over the $1 billion mark. The biggest announcement, per FinSMEs, came from London-based Isomorphic Labs, which is building an AI drug design and development platform. The company raised a $2.1 billion Series B, which it will use to "accelerate the development and deployment of its AI drug design engine (IsoDDE), expand its pipeline of therapeutic programs toward clinical trials, and scale its global workforce across AI, engineering, and clinical disciplines," according to its announcement. Our second-place announcement was from San Francisco-based AI infrastructure provider Lambda, raising... CONTINUE HERE

AI INTELLIGENCE | News For the Week of 5/14/26

The artificial intelligence sector continued its rapid expansion during the second week of May 2026, with major developments spanning infrastructure, regulation, healthcare, defense, enterprise software, and capital markets. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and numerous startups intensified the race to secure computing power, funding, and enterprise adoption. Governments and regulators also increased scrutiny of frontier AI systems as concerns over national security, labor disruption, and infrastructure concentration grew louder. Meanwhile, Wall Street's enthusiasm for AI remained strong, highlighted by the blockbuster IPO debut of AI chipmaker Cerebras Systems. Anthropic dominated headlines after reports emerged that the company had agreed to terms for a... CONTINUE HERE

INDUSTRY BRIEF | OpenAI Launches $4 Billion AI Deployment Consultancy

OpenAI is partnering with the likes of Bain, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, TPG and McKinsey to launch a $4 billion AI deployment consultancy. The launch of the OpenAI Deployment Company - widely referred to online as "DeployCo" - alongside its acquisition of AI consulting firm Tomoro marks one of the clearest signals yet that the next phase of the AI race will revolve around implementation, integration and operational deployment inside large enterprises, including banks, insurers, asset managers and wealth management firms. DeployCo arrives at a moment when financial institutions are struggling with a widening gap between AI experimentation and actual enterprise-scale deployment. While many firms have... CONTINUE HERE
