AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello friends, welcome to a huge week in artificial intelligence. What you'll find below is a newsletter bursting at the seams with solid AI info, from an especially long AI & Finance column with an introduction revisiting some of the recent disparities between the public's use of artificial intelligence for advice versus their low stated levels of trust in the technology. AI Education is also a bit bigger than usual this time around as we tackled the topic of causal AI, embracing it as an enjoyable intellectual exercise. The Top 5 VCs for this week revealed that there's plenty of money still being invested in hopes of finding the next AI unicorn. Also, after working out more of the kinks in our AI Intelligence column prompts, this week's version is a little more, shall we say, "crisp," than it has been since we've taken over producing the piece. Oh, and we also leaned on generative AI to put together a brief news feature on some of the debate and commentary in the financial industry regarding one of Anthropic's new models... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 4/17/26

It's more of the same this week. A lot more. We had so many AI & Finance headlines this week that we once again were thinking about truncating our column or narrowing our focus, because this is becoming a beast. But you've heard us grumble about that before, and we're always back to it trying to find both the big, important, highly relevant newsmakers and the little but informative tidbits alike. It was also more of the same in terms of AI & Finance research this week-there was a "State of AI for Wealth" paper from technology and finance analysts at BridgeWise... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION | What Is Causal AI?

Generative AI is a problem solver alright. Actually, it's more of a question answerer. The problem is that the questions we ask of generative AI are always what- or how-type questions. "What is causal AI?", for example-which is what we're going to be talking about-or "How do I write a riveting column about causal AI with a great introduction that just sucks everyone in?" I've given away the topic of this week's AI education, but that's okay, because that's the what of the matter. We want intelligence that can tell us why, and that's what we're going to call "causal AI"... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (4/15/26)

This week our AI venture capital activity kept up the overall momentum from prior weeks. The biggest announcement, per FinSMEs, came from Australia-based AI infrastructure provider Firmus, which raised $505 million which it will use to "expand operations and its development efforts," according to its announcement. Firmus is building a network of energy-efficient AI factories in Australia. Our second-place announcement was from Santa Clara-based SiFive, another player in the AI infrastructure game, which raised a $400 million Series G, which it will use to "accelerate the development of its next generation data center solutions and expand its global engineering teams to meet the... AI INTELLIGENCE | News For the Week of 4/16/26

The artificial intelligence sector continued its rapid evolution in mid-April, marked by escalating competition among foundation model providers, mounting regulatory scrutiny, and deepening enterprise adoption across financial services, healthcare, and government. Major technology firms pushed forward with new model releases and infrastructure investments, while policymakers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia advanced frameworks aimed at balancing innovation with risk management. Meanwhile, venture funding remained robust, particularly in applied AI and vertical-specific solutions, underscoring the market's shift from experimentation to deployment at scale. OpenAI and Microsoft announced expanded enterprise integrations for ChatGPT and Azure AI, including enhanced data governance controls and industry-specific copilots tailored... CONTINUE HERE

INDUSTRY BRIEF | Policymakers, Thought Leaders Warn About Financial Risks of New AI Models

The release of increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems is once again forcing regulators, financial institutions, and policymakers into a familiar but accelerating cycle: innovation outpacing oversight. Over the past week, a series of warnings from central bankers, regulators, and industry leaders has converged around one focal point-one of Anthropic's latest models, referred to as "Claude Mythos." The system's capabilities have sparked both excitement and unease, particularly within the global financial system, where the margin for error is thin and the consequences of failure can be systemic. What distinguishes this moment from prior AI cycles is not simply incremental improvement, but a perceived... CONTINUE HERE
