AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello, friends, it was a wild week, wasn't it-there was a lot of news to digest, nationally, globally, locally-and the technology news kept coming, too, as you'll see below. Now, we're not sure if we're the only ones who have sensed a negative sentiment, a pessimism, a descending gloom about the future being created through technology, but it's definitely out there, often coming from the same people who are seemingly perpetually down on government, business and religion. Well, we believe it's impossible to follow technology closely and not feel some level of hope and optimism. The promises of abundance through AI might be hogwash, but the promise of technology to help humanity address, and perhaps cure, many of its ills is difficult to deny. Yet, we're still a long way from making it happen, as the content in this week's newsletter will reveal, from an AI & Finance headlines column again largely dedicated to trust issues with AI, to an AI Intelligence column full of measured progress and new obstacles for AI development and implementation. There's also huge news in our Top 5 VC fund raises column, and we're sure you'll learn something new along the way... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 1/16/26

Welcome! Let's not waste words with a clever introduction this week-let's jump right into some AI & Finance data before going through a very long list of headlines. Almost three-quarters of financial advisors said that artificial intelligence is already helping their practice in a recent survey by wealthtech Advisor360, yet many still report being held back from using and investing more in AI by trust issues. Around half of the survey reported compliance and regulatory issues as the main reasons they don't use AI, with slightly fewer saying that they don't trust AI outputs. Only around one-fifth of advisors would volunteer information... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION | What Is an AI Factory?

What came before, conceptually, is inevitably going to be an actual part of what's next. Artificial intelligence is part of a technological movement towards a new economic paradigm, away from 20th century labor-capital relations built on the principles of Henry Ford-style production, and now, away from the post-Fordist information age and towards what might be a post-information economy. At the same time, we're going to be applying the concepts introduced by industrialists and businessmen like Henry Ford to novel technologies for some time to come, it's no different for AI, and that brings us to this week's AI Education topic: The AI Factory... Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (1/16/26)

AI venture capital funding roared to life in the second full week of 2026, with all five of our announcements coming in above the $100 million threshold. The top reported deal, per FinSMEs, came from Elon Musk's xAI, which raised $20 billion in its Series E. xAI will use the funds to "continue to accelerate infrastructure buildout, enable the rapid development and deployment of AI products reaching billions of users, and fuel research advancing xAI's core mission to understand the universe," according to its announcement. Our second announcement is from New York-based Cyera, which raised $400 million to "accelerate growth, doubling down on... CONTINUE HERE

DWN's Al and Ivy (AI) Podcast, Episode 59 | Trump's Arctic Gambit: Greenland in the Crosshairs

In this week's episode of the Al & Ivy (AI) Podcast, the hosts pivot from Latin America to the High North, unpacking a striking development in global geopolitics: President Trump's renewed push to assert U.S. influence - and possibly control - over Greenland. Drawing from a recent Al Jazeera analysis, the episode explores what "taking Greenland" could really mean, how far the U.S. might go, and why this matters far beyond the Arctic. The hosts break down the range of scenarios being discussed in Washington and Copenhagen - from diplomatic pressure and land deals to the more controversial suggestion that hard power might be used. Trump... CONTINUE HERE
