AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello, friends, we spent another week watching a wave of momentum build in artificial intelligence news, particularly in the financial services sector, as you'll see in a very long rundown of AI & Finance headlines below. Some late-breaking news moved us closer to fully compliant, robust generative financial AI, but in our Regs & Risks column, Greg Woolf warns that regulators aren't yet comfortable with industry adoption of cloud-based AI. We also have the scoop on another huge batch of AI venture capital fundraising announcements led by two deals exceeding the $1 billion mark, a look at embodied AI in our AI Education column, and, as usual, Al & Ivy wrap things up with a highly relevant discussion on U.S. government shutdowns, which maybe is not as much fun as their "banana ball" discussion last week, but as we sit on this Friday morning more than two days into the current shutdown, it is as timely as can be... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

AI REGS & RISKS | Regulators Don't Want You Using Cloud-Based GenAI Yet

Before financial institutions can fully embrace generative AI, regulators are sending a clear warning: not so fast. The Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve, and FINRA have all raised concerns about the risks of sending sensitive financial data into external, cloud-based AI models. This isn't just about compliance checkboxes. It's a fundamental reassessment of risk and control that is reshaping how firms think about AI adoption. Cloud-based AI platforms such as OpenAI or Google Gemini deliver remarkable performance. But regulators are increasingly concerned that these systems introduce risks that financial institutions cannot fully mitigate. As MIT's Dr. Sandra Black has documented, the black box... AI EDUCATION: What Is Embodied AI?

It's October, the month where everything starts to get creepy, so why not talk about bodies. No, that's not a comment on our physical appearance, and we're not taking a trip to the morgue-we're curious about these mounds of flesh that we all animate with thoughts and feelings. Well, what if we were to animate something body-like with artificial intelligence? Welcome to another AI Education, where today, we're going to talk about embodied AI, which is not exactly what you might expect from our introduction. To us, at least, and at first blush, embodied AI sounds like we're putting artificial intelligence into... CONTINUE HERE

DWN's Al and Ivy (AI) Podcast, Episode 46 | Navigating the 2025 U.S. Government Shutdown

In this week's spotlight, we turn to Washington and the risks of a looming U.S. government shutdown-how political gridlock could ripple through workers, markets, and the broader economy. Synopsized here as an overview of the new Al & Ivy podcast episode "Navigating the 2025 U.S. Government Shutdown Risks," the discussion explores why the stakes are higher this year and what history can teach us about market and policy reactions. The analysis, based on TD Economics ("U.S. Government Shutdown Risks: 2025 Edition"), explains that shutdowns occur when Congress fails to pass the twelve annual appropriation bills or a continuing resolution by October 1st...
