AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello, friends, we feel like we're stuck in a "Groundhog Day" scenario this week as fears of an AI bubble are percolating. Again. We're not going to hit you over the head with what is essentially a stock market story at this point, but let's just say image-wise it was a challenging week for artificial intelligence in general, and yet, the technology wave continues to break over all of us. AI is happening! Not only that, but it's already changing the way we live. While Greg Woolf briefly touches on the bubble issue in his AI Regs & Risk column this week, you'll find in our AI & Finance headlines, AI Intelligence and Top 5 venture capital deals pieces this time around plenty of items showing that the proliferation of the technology, and the flow of money supporting its development and advancement, don't seem to be abating. But don't take our word for it... CHECK IT ALL OUT BELOW!

AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 8/22/25

Welcome to another week of AI & Finance, and of course there's a ton of AI stuff to sift through and we're going to get you right to it. Or maybe we're thinking more about the present of education, where plenty of students, from the college level on down to grade schools, are copping to the use of AI to assist or cheat on assigned work. For teachers and administrators, it has become such a... CONTINUE HERE

AI REGS & RISKS: Is AI Propping Up the Economy?

Over the past two years, enthusiasm for AI has repeatedly countered economic headwinds. When the Fed raised rates to fight inflation and markets wobbled, it was AI that kept Wall Street buoyant. But the story is no longer confined to stock charts. Massive capital investments in AI infrastructure are now showing up in GDP, jobs, and the national conversation about technology itself. The big four-Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta-are spending nearly $400 billion this year on AI data centers. That's more than Europe's defense budget and almost half of U.S. defense spending. By some estimates, AI capital expenditures alone have contributed... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION: What Is AI Infrastructure?

Welcome to AI Education, where, this week, we're going to zoom back out and talk about a more general concept, artificial intelligence infrastructure. That's essentially the foundation upon which the world's most powerful and advanced software to date is being built and used. Before we dive in, we'll note that there's another way to look at the intersection of AI and Infrastructure, where AI is being applied to infrastructure management in areas like logistics, traffic control, energy and communications. That's not what we're talking about this week-we're talking about what AI needs to work-it's IT infrastructure, but for AI. While IT... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (8/22/25)

This week's top-heavy venture capital funding is led by two big deals exceeding the $200 million threshold. The top reported deal, per FinSMEs, came from Santa Clara, CA-based optical interface developer Celestial AI, which raised a $255 million Series C1 in part to "accelerate commercial deployment of its Photonic Fabric technology," according to its announcement. Celestial's optical interface technology hopes to underpin new generations of AI infrastructure, including data centers, networking and memory systems. Our second-place announcement came from the healthcare and housing space, where New York-based EliseAI brought in a $250 million Series E round. The top five also included companies in... AI INTELLIGENCE Weekly Top 10 (8/22/2025)

This week, AI grabbed the headlines-from palatable tech drama to viral human-AI liaisons and seismic shifts in funding and markets. OpenAI is in discussions to sell $6 billion in shares, potentially raising its valuation to $500 billion. This surge follows GPT‑5's mixed launch and comes as regulators ramp up scrutiny. Investors are signaling caution-Nvidia stock dipped as analysts warn of an "AI bubble," propelled by lukewarm GPT‑5 reception and fears of overheating markets. Responding to user feedback, OpenAI updated GPT‑5's tone to sound friendlier ("Good question," "Great start")-a shift that quickly triggered backlash over reduced efficiency. A Reddit user, Wika...
