AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello friends, here we are on the other side of another holiday, and while the flow of news certainly eased over the past week, artificial intelligence does not stop, it does not take weekends or holidays, and it never takes a break. For evidence, just check out our column of top five venture capital deals in AI, where the fundraising totals have been lower over the past two weeks but the volume continues to be high. Similarly, in our AI & Finance news briefs, we have a nice, long list of headlines to cover, just not quite as long as they have been over the first half of 2025. Significantly, Greg Woolf checks in with some thoughts about what some late changes to the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" mean for AI regulations in the U.S., and, well, it isn't very pretty, because in the near term, AI regulation in the U.S. seems doomed to be piecemeal and decentralized... AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 7/11/25

We'd like to start this week by continuing to think about some of the consequences of the expanding use of artificial intelligence in highly regulated, trust-based industries like financial services, and what it might mean for society in the future. Today, we'd like to talk about an issue that goes beyond artificial intelligence, that is attached to all of the technology we adopt-what happens to us when we lose the ability to choose, and not just to choose, but to make the wrong choice. What I'm alluding to here is the adoption of processes and software that are "compliant by design," eliminating... CONTINUE HERE

AI REGS & RISKS: And So... Regulatory Chaos Ensues

The Senate's 99-1 vote on July 1 to delete a ten-year freeze on new state AI laws from the "One Big Beautiful Bill" was billed as a win for innovation. By dawn, it had opened the floodgates: every statehouse is suddenly free to legislate at will, and policy trackers count well over a thousand AI bills in play this year. For wealth management firms leveraging AI for everything from robo-advisory and portfolio allocation to client risk-profiling and personalized marketing, this fractured landscape creates immediate and complex challenges. A single AI-driven financial planning tool might now face competing disclosure and bias audit requirements across... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION: What Is 3-D Generative AI?

I'm not a great visual artist. Having a nearly 4 year old in the house has really brought me to that conclusion-he asks me to draw all kinds of weird stuff, like a duck, or a truck, or a cat, or a bat, and what I end up drawing usually doesn't really look like much of anything. Luckily, his mom is a wonderful artist. But what if instead of asking Dad to draw a duck or a truck or a cat or a bat, he could just yell at a computer to create one he could interact with in three dimensions? Welcome... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (7/11/25)

AI venture capital funding seems to be on a mid-year break, nevertheless this week one deal exceeded the $100 million threshold. The top reported deal, per FinSMEs, came San Francisco-based asset management platform MaintainX, which raised a $150 million round in part to "expand its AI and machine health monitoring capabilities and partnerships, advance predictive maintenance solutions, and further develop enterprise asset management (EAM) capabilities," according to its announcement. The next biggest announcement came from the UK parcel delivery space, where London-based Hived, raised a $42 million Series B. The top five also included companies in the fashion, procurement and data spaces. Smaller... CONTINUE HERE

AI INTELLIGENCE Weekly Top 10 (7/11/2025)

This week's AI news was a little lighter, a little weirder-and a lot more fun. From a viral virtual band to chatbots with emotional blind spots, it was the kind of week that makes you laugh and question everything. And I don't know about you, but I personally like ChatGPT sounding like my "well-meaning aunt", since all my aunts are - well - "on the other side of the rainbow" now. But apparently that's changing. And the fact that an AI band hit 1 million listeners on Spotify? I mean, let's face it - THE TECHNOLOGY IS EVOLVING. Unexpected AI composers - An... CONTINUE HERE

DWN's Al and Ivy (AI) Podcast, Episode 35: Money Laundering & AI

In this week's podcast, our dynamic AI duo - Al & Ivy - unpack how generative AI is both a threat and a tool in fighting financial crime. The content was generated thru NotebookLM from this content source: How Generative Artificial Intelligence Launders Money" published May 16, 2025 on the Sanction Scanner website. The source discusses how generative AI, a technology capable of creating new content from learned data, presents a significant threat in money laundering by enabling the production of fake IDs, automating illicit transactions, simulating false business activities, and exploiting online marketplaces or cryptocurrencies. It also details the creation of convincing phishing attempts... CONTINUE HERE
