AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello friends, it's turning out to be a hot summer indeed for artificial intelligence, particularly in highly regulated industries like financial services. This week we look at some of the reasons why this has occurred in a very long rundown of the AI & Finance headlines. Greg Woolf is also back pondering the impact of AI on topics like the relationship between labor and capital and the meaning and legal status of intellectual property. In AI Education, we take an extended look at Google DeepMind and some of its stunning achievements in artificial intelligence. This week also saw another significant surge of venture capital into AI, so big, in fact, that we were unable to include the huge Conquest Planning capital raise in our top 5 feature because there were at least six other funding raises that came in over $100 million mark... AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 6/27/25

We almost have more headlines we can handle in this edition of AI & Finance, with dozens of stories below that mark a flourishing in new artificial intelligence tools within the financial sector. And this week, once again, we're going to start by giving you more evidence-and predictions based on that evidence-of AI's maturation and expansion, taking an extra moment to ponder one of the causes of the leap forward in AI adoption in the financial services sector: Trust. Recall that last week we named some of the findings from research published by Stony Brook professor Jason Jeffrey Jones, tracking trust... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION: What Is Google DeepMind?

Welcome to another AI Education column, this time, we're going to change directions again and discuss a specific AI application and company: Google DeepMind. Here is where I point out that Google AI was discussed a little more than a year ago in this column, before I took over the writing duties, and if you're looking for more of a general take on Google's AI efforts, that piece is a nice place to start-it mentions that Google purchased DeepMind back in 2014. So why are we talking about it now? This week, Google DeepMind introduced an AI model that runs on robotic... CONTINUE HERE

AI REGS & RISKS: The Intelligence Curse

The potential impact of Generative AI on our social contract is well outlined in an April 2025 white paper titled The Intelligence Curse by Luke Drago and Rudolf Laine. The authors argue that AI could mint more wealth than any invention in history, yet-left unchecked-it may push most humans outside the economic loop, turning intelligence into an "unnatural" rent-extracting resource owned by a shrinking elite. Averting that outcome, they contend, will require a radically democratized, community-led governance model. As frontier models mature, productivity skyrockets while payrolls shrink. Drago and Laine's "pyramid replacement" narrative shows companies first freezing entry-level hiring, then lopping... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (6/27/25)

This week our announcements feature five deals exceeding the $100 million threshold. The top reported deal, per FinSMEs, came from Durham, N.C.-based sports team operating system provider Teamworks, which raised a $235 million Series F in part to "accelerate development of AI-powered solutions across all four product categories by expanding its data science team and enhance AI-driven insights that deliver a better decision-making for athletes, coaches, and administrators," according to its announcement. So, I guess think of an AI version of Billy Bean. The next biggest announcement came from the UK's physical AI space, where London-based PhysicsX raised a $135 million round. The... CONTINUE HERE

AI INTELLIGENCE Weekly Top 10 (6/27/2025)

Friends, from Times Square provocations to secret-agent AI antics, this week's AI news cycle was anything but quiet (quite noisy, in fact). Media giants are drawing legal lines in the sand, CEOs are issuing warnings about AI's impact on the job market (we know this one firsthand as it's influencing our business, too), and the dark side of agent-based AI (which has been the darling of the artificial intelligence community these past several months) is becoming more visible. Meanwhile, deepfakes are swirling-and not just in politics. Some pretty crazy stories below this week, fyi. Corporate Caution Gets Loud: Top CEOs from Amazon... CONTINUE HERE

DWN's Al and Ivy (AI) Podcast, Episode 33 - Hormuz Under Siege and Its Potential Global Impact

In this week's podcast, our dynamic AI duo - Al & Ivy - dive into the Strait of Hormuz, exploring its global energy role, Iran's strategic risks, and the potential fallout of a closure. The content was generated thru NotebookLM from this content source: "What If: Iran Closed the Strait of Hormuz" by Pacinte Abdel-Fattah, published on June 19, 2025 on the Al Habtoor Research Centre website. The provided source explores the Strait of Hormuz as a critical global chokepoint, emphasizing its immense importance for international oil and natural gas transit, as well as broader maritime trade. It meticulously examines the potential motivations for Iran... CONTINUE HERE
