AI&F | WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to our weekly edition of AI & Finance™!

Hello friends, welcome to a special, truncated edition of AI & Finance. Even editors-in-chief occasionally take vacations, and yours truly is, believe it or not, working from a beautiful beach house right now with the sound of the waves beckoning him (so pardon us if we seem a little bit briefer than usual in our comments this time around). In our AI & Finance headlines column, we have a very full week of action in financial services-related artificial intelligence news. We also turned up another very big week in AI venture capital funding. And, for a nice change of pace, we're running a trio of our most popular AI Education columns so far in 2025, touching on crucial topics that AI investors and enthusiasts need to know... AI & FINANCE™ | NEWS FOR THE WEEK ENDING 6/6/25

Welcome to another huge week for the advancement and proliferation of artificial intelligence in the financial services industry-and we have all your headlines below. This week, in lieu of editorializing or running down some of the recent greater AI news, we're going to abbreviate our introduction and get you straight to the news-and not just because there's so much news to report. Your faithful editor-in-chief is enjoying a bit of a vacation, though here he is, typing away as usual. To get ourselves back to the beach, boats and our family a little quicker, let's jump right in and start reporting those headlines... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION: What Is Deep Learning?

This week on AI Education we're going to discuss deep learning-which is a type of AI model related to machine learning. Here's IBM's definition: "Deep learning is a subset of machine learning that uses multilayered neural networks, called deep neural networks, to simulate the complex decision-making power of the human brain. Some form of deep learning powers most of the artificial intelligence (AI) applications in our lives today." If you're wondering how we stumbled into this topic, we went on a search-engine hunt through recently published AI-related papers in scientific journals and found no shortage of articles focused on different applications of... AI EDUCATION: What Is AI Sovereignty

As businesses, states and individuals ramp up their use and development of artificial intelligence, questions of control are emerging. According to some onlookers, the world is moving towards a new technological "Cold War" driven by artificial intelligence, one that will inevitably pit technology developed by the so-called Free World of the West against political adversaries led by China. Hence, the rapid rise of DeepSeek, the Chinese AI powerhouse, was interpreted by many political and economic analysts as a "shot across the bow" for technology firms and policymakers in the West. While much of the focus has been on the competition to develop next-generation... CONTINUE HERE

Top 5 VC Deals of the Week in AI (6/6/25)

This week our announcements are led by four deals exceeding the $100 million threshold. The top reported deal, per FinSMEs, came from San Francisco-based Grammarly, which raised $1 billion from General Catalyst in part to "grow its customer base and extend the reach of its AI productivity platform," according to its announcement. The next biggest announcement came from the AI infrastructure and analytics space, where San Francisco-based ClickHouse raised a $350 million Series C. The top five also included companies in the AI data development, quantum computing and emergency response spaces. Smaller funding raises that did not quite make our top 5 this... CONTINUE HERE

Friends, AI continues to stir global headlines this week - from Microsoft's surprising policy pivot to Europe's privacy crackdown, and AI taking center stage in court. Here are the 10 most viral, eyebrow-raising, and conversation-sparking stories across the AI universe this week. Microsoft's new policy to allow broader access to user data for third-party AI tools is being blasted by security experts and regulators alike. While it's pitched as "open innovation," critics say it's a privacy minefield. Meta's AI-generated news summaries allegedly invented bombings and deaths in a Canadian article recap - sparking outrage and further mistrust around AI news tools. In a first, U.S... CONTINUE HERE

AI EDUCATION: Has AI Passed the Turing Test?

This week in AI Education we're going to talk about the Turing Test, whether AI has passed it, what that might mean for the future and whether the Turing Test is really all that meaningful to us in the first place. That sounds like a lot to get to but it really isn't, I promise. If you're a dedicated AI & Finance reader, you'll know I mentioned the Turing Test last week in my introduction as I noted just how much of the activity on the internet is now accounted for by bots, many of which are operated by artificial intelligence. In case... CONTINUE HERE
